Faction Profile: Scrappers Empty Faction Profile: Scrappers

Sun Feb 09, 2020 9:26 pm
“Waste not, want not”

Resources: Med Tech, Scrap, Ammo
Costume Requirements: At least two small pieces of tech or scrap worn over their clothing.

With their often patchwork clothing and nomadic lifestyle, Scrappers have been compared to the myths of Travellers and Roma of old. They live by a motto: If it ain’t bolted down, it can be taken for the Gang. Scrappers are territorial of their homes and inventions. They will protect their own and their territory without hesitation. Many find Scrappers offensive and insulting of others. Scrappers know this is just how they talk to one another. The thing Scrappers value more than their own kin and territory, is Technology. They do everything in their power to remake the tech of old.

Structure

While referring to themselves as Gangs, groups of Scrappers may be formed of multi-generational family groups, or simply like-minded unscrupulous individuals as the name ‘gang’ suggests. Across the globe they are finding ways to re-engineer old technology and recycle remnants of the past. While the Scrappers do not have a unified government in the manner of the Swiss or the Sacred, they are more likely to trade with their own or gang up with each other to achieve their goals...especially against Corporate luxury or dull Sacred benedictions.

Every Gang has a leader, and every leader has had to prove their worth to those they lead. Most gangs use Scrap Day to narrow their options and then have the existing and potential leaders square off in a challenge of the existing leader’s choice. Should the challenger succeed, they will then take control of the gang and any assets the gang has decided their leader should have (accommodations, a garment or badge, pet, etc.) This yearly review of power helps keep Scrappers as a whole to be fairly driven and dynamic individuals.

Holidays

Scrap Day: celebrated in July

This holiday is both a festival and a challenge to see who can salvage the most valuable tech for the gang. The winner of this competition may then challenge their gang leader for control of the gang. Those who do not wish to vie for leadership, will hunt and prepare a feast for the whole gang to enjoy.

The exact date of Scrap Day varies from gang to gang, but the month of July is common due to either the extreme heat or cold that participants will experience pending on their place in the world. Once it is declared, it is kept a secret within the gang. Should a member of another faction or gang find out about a gang’s Scrap Day, the leak will be disqualified and often made an example of.

The participants will make themselves known to the gang by dawn of the chosen day (the previous night is usually preferred). They will then have until sunset to acquire goods for their gang.

Their collection will be presented to the gang shortly after sundown. While the rules vary from gang to gang, most search the participants’ accommodations for hidden loot or do not permit them to enter their own tent during challenge day to prevent cheating.

The Week of Fire : December 19-26

Observed in a manner similar to the Faithful with gaudy garments and gift-giving, Scrappers see this as a time to toast the World Before, party and impress potential lovers.

The Scrappers in Stormont

In the last decade since the beginning of Project LiveWire, the two larger gangs who have made their presence known in the area are The Broken Chain Gang and The Mek Crew. Other Scrappers may make their way through the region or even find themselves being contracted by other factions, however the BCG and MC are known to have significant resources at their disposal.

The Broken Chain Gang

The BCG is a moderate-sized gang of misfits cast away from other factions for various reasons usually rule breaking. Members of the BCG all wear chains as a symbol of their unity. Members of the BCG generally look out for themselves and take what they can, when they can. A local legend and now leader of the Broken Chain Gang Dimitri Kinoffski runs the show, rumor has it that Dimitri once broke into a local CEO’s office and stole his rare pet Beagle and sold it on the black market to a rival CEO. This would be business as usual if Dimitri hadn't been hired by the original owner of the Beagle to steal it from its new owner… which he did for a handsome fee. This gang excels in acquisition of assets and trade.

The Mek Crew

Significantly less active in their recruitment as of late, the Mek Crew tend to keep to themselves unless they are raiding. With haunts all along the St. Lawrence from the Morreal Wastes to the 1000 Island Corridor, it is common to find their gear-pattern graffiti or inscriptions of “The Flesh is Weak”.

While they were at first intrigued by Project LiveWire and had begun talks with both Aegis Corp and the SCH, a change in leadership in 2216 following the first melt has put these relations on hold. Exceptionally private about their activities, little else is known about this group or their current leader aside from their imperative to replace their flesh with the machines of the old ones. According to SCH research, they were inspired by ancient codices which were passed down from leader to leader until their binding crumbled. Whether this is truth or fiction, the SCH cannot confirm. In the summer of 2119, the actions of the previous leader of the Mek Crew --Ethan Aubry-- led to a tear between our world and his home plane, the reptile-dominated Dakkan. The inhabitants of Scrap Town, with support from the SCH, tracked Ethan and his cohorts down and slew them.

The 7 Gears

A ragtag gang formed within Scrap Town, the 7 Gears were drawn together by Project LiveWire and formed the chaotic backbone of the settlement during its formation. (this is a player run group)
